HARDLY

Definition: adverb. When you say you can hardly do something, you mean that it is very difficult for you to do it. The auxiliary "can" is often used with this adverb.

Example: I can hardly hear you, the music is too loud.

Synonyms: hardly: almost not, only just.

Position: You put hardly either between the auxiliary and the verb, or between the subject and the verb.

    Example: She can hardly read.

                    I hardly know.

!:You must not confuse hard and hardly. It is completely different.

Example: He tried hard to find a job, but he had no luck = He tried a lot.

I am not surprised he did not find a job. He hardly tried to find one = He spent                      very little time trying.
